OUR PEOPLE

James Archbell III, President
James joined A&W Contractors, Inc. in 1972 and worked alongside his father Sam until his retirement in 1987, at which time James took over as President. James continued the development of A&W, which included growth and success in both the public and private sectors. During his years with A&W, James has played an integral role in ensuring the timely completion of all projects with a focus on quality. In addition to leading the A&W team, he is very active in the community. James founded the James C. Archbell III Foundation (www.jcafoundationva.org), which raises funds for goods, services and opportunities for children in need. A resident of Chesapeake, James is blessed with a lovely wife and four children.

Ian Hill, Vice President
Ian joined A&W Contractors, Inc. in 1994 after completing three years of service in the U.S. Army. He entered the field as a survey party chief, then advanced to project estimator and superintendent before being named Vice President in 2000. Ian is responsible for overseeing company bids and serves as a liaison between project managers and A&W team members. He also maintains quality control, prospects for new business initiatives and serves as a general superintendent on projects large and small. In that role, he has intimate knowledge of the projects through hands-on management practices. Ian currently resides in Chesapeake with his wife and son.

Elizabeth Hamilton, CPA, Chief Financial Officer
Elizabeth Hamilton has been with A&W for 15 years as the Chief Financial Officer. She has more than 23 years experience in accounting, tax preparation and contract administration. Elizabeth is married and has two sons.

Chris Logan, Estimator/Project Manager
Chris started with A&W Contractors, Inc. in 2003 while completing his studies at Old Dominion University. Chris began working in the field performing various tasks from working with utility crews, erosion and sediment control installation, Utilities Testing, and Equipment Operation. With these hands-on experiences as a framework, he later began to add to his duties working in the office performing preliminary bid preparation work and project documentation. Chris is responsible for preparing and submitting public and private bids and proposals, project management and record keeping, and materials acquisition. Chris lives in Chesapeake with his wife and daughter.
